Welcome to Sixth Form
Opportunity, responsibility and success characterise the Sixth Form of Kettering Science Academy.
Over the last few years our Sixth Form has established an excellent record of success and has a proven success rate in both A level and Level 2 courses, with many of our students exceeding their target grades.
In line with our recent Academy status our students have also been set new standards of expectation; wearing the smart sixth form uniform at all times and organising their studies in such a way that they achieve their academic potential.
The Sixth Form is led by our head boy and head girl, who along with their deputies and our prefect team, are expected to support and act as role models for our younger students.
We offer a wide range of courses (for more information click onto the courses tab above) and provide a varied curriculum which allows each student to express their talents and reach their potential.
All our students are also supported academically and pastorally so that they can be successful at what can be a demanding phase of their education.
In addition to the lesson contact time, students are expected to devote a further two hours of private study to each course taken. Students are also expected to offer one session per week to complete voluntary work within and beyond the Academy community.
Each student is allocated a personal tutor, with whom, they will have contact on a daily basis. The tutor will help them with all aspects of Sixth Form life, from helping to organise and review study programmes to assisting with any academic or personal problems.
We also have a Key Stage 5 study manager who is responsible for monitoring the progress of all students. The study manager also will meet with parents, offer mentoring and signpost students to other sources of assistance.
Citizenship and PSHE
Students follow a programme which is designed to help them when they leave KSA by providing them with the knowledge and skills required in life. The programme includes a variety of units including career investigation, political awareness, health and financial education. The programme is lead by KSA staff in conjunction with outside speakers and Sixth Form students.
Enrichment
Students are encouraged to participate and lead enrichment activities during Academy sessions. We expect Sixth Formers to actively engage in Academy life and take full advantage of the numerous university visits, educational trips, charity events and social activities. The Duke of Edinburgh award, Motor Vehicle maintenance course and primary phase work experience are some examples which allow KSA Sixth Form students to develop their team work skills. Courses such as CSLA and JSLA allow our students to gain confidence and the social attributes which can be transferred to university life or places of employment.
