KSA have raised the most amount of money for The National Autism Society making them Fundraising School of the Year.

During National Autism Awareness Week, students and staff organised a variety of events and raised a total of £779.78.

As a prize the school will receive some original artwork from World Autism Awareness Week 2016 and a bag of merchandise.

Caroline Rees, Fundraising Campaigns Officer said ‘I was absolutely astounded when I saw how much your school had raised. I want to say a huge thank to the staff and children for taking part this year and for helping to increase the understanding of autism in your school.

‘It is incredible what you have all done in support of autistic people. Please pass on my appreciation to the children, as they have achieved a huge amount and have undoubtedly helped to change lives.’
Over the course of National Autism Awareness Week, the Year 10 Princes Trust group took part in a sponsored silence on Tuesday, only using whiteboards and pens to communicate. The students organised a ‘Guess the Special Interest’ competition and hosted a coffee morning and cake sale on Wednesday, doing everything from organising the event to setting up the tables. There was a joint mufti-day on the Friday, in which the funds were split between Comic Relief and The Nation Autism Society.

The SEN (Special Educations Needs) team also held assemblies everyday. Teacher Miss Kayleigh-Jay Incles said ‘We have a variety of students at the Academy with SEN and by supporting this event, we hope to promote the inclusion of not some but all students.’
