A group of our Year 8 students are currently reading and studying the book – Goodnight Mister Tom. The students have been set projects based on the story, which follows a boy who is abused and discovers a new life after he is evacuated during the war.

Teacher Ms Siddal said: ‘The students actually came up with idea of building an Anderson shelter themselves for a homework project. It is really nice to see the students self-motivated with their homework and coming up with project ideas themselves.

‘I gave the students three weeks to complete the project and was really impress with the amount of effort they had put into building the shelters. The project has allowed the students to apply what they have learnt in an exciting cross-curricular project, which uses a range of skills.

‘I am now really looking forward to seeing what the students make for their next project, where they will tasked with creating an evacuation suitcase.’

Well done to all the students who have made Anderson shelters – they look amazing.
