Writing From The Trenches

History students composed their own letters from the trenches as part of a hands-on World War One project.

Year 9 students started by studying original letters written by soldiers to their loved ones during the Great War.

They then set about composing and censoring their own letters which captured life in the trenches.

The students have also been producing posters which replicate the kind of propaganda that made so many men sign up in 1914.

It linked in to the Academy's recent drive to raise awareness of Remembrance Sunday, which included the creation of a giant wreath filled with students' messages, along with special assemblies.
