Students at Kettering Science Academy studied the origins of skateboarding before designing and making their own retro cruiser style boards. They started by selecting five planks of pine or oak then 

used 2D Design CAD software to design a laser engraved grip for the top of the boards, which three students completed. The others used image transference using a medium gel, which resulted in a retro graphic design that enhanced the boards and referenced the origins of the sport. Finally the boards were coated in clear varnish and finished with 3” trucks and 58mm wheels.

Teacher James Mason said: ‘The students really enjoyed the process, they learned a lot and were eager to get started every lesson. The final results are really good and they have learned good practical skills and have made products to be proud of.’
