Design Students Research Their ‘Customers’

Year 9 students who are designing pencil holders for children in KSA’s Primary Phase carried out some research to check the requirements.

The real-life design project, which will last six weeks, saw students visit Year 3 classes to measure children's arms so they know how far they will need to reach across the table.

They also measured the size of the children's hands so they know how wide and how deep to make the containers.

The group had already completed questionnaires with the children to find out what sort of product they would like.

DT teacher Dr Nicholas Guy said: "The idea is that they feel more involved and have a better understanding of the project and what's needed.
"Normally they are designing and making for themselves but this time, it's for someone else so they have to gather information about their 'client' first."
