The Academy has now achieved the full International School Award thanks to the multi-cultural programme that has been developed.

To gain the full award, the Academy had to implement seven curriculum-based international activities, within or outside of lessons.

Last year, this included Gifted and Talented students in Year 10 taking part in a European debate at County Hall in Northampton.

Japan Day was the theme of one of the recent ICU days, while students learnt some Polish and looked at different currency during Euro Day.

Once of the most exciting initiatives has seen KSA link up with schools in Saudi Arabia and students attending an after-school club produced videos to be sent to their counterparts there.

As part of the award, teachers have been adding more international elements to their schemes of work.

Humanities Teacher Natasha Franklin, who put the award application together, said: "It shows our community that we encourage internationalism and we encourage our students to understand other cultures. We want them to build relationships with people from other countries and not shy away from doing so.

"For students who went along to the European debate in Northampton, it opened their eyes to European issues while also giving them the skills in public speaking."
