Roald Dahl Day Celebrated With Poetry Competition
A poetry competition has been launched to celebrate the work of one of the world’s most popular children’s authors.
To mark Roald Dahl Day today (September 13th), librarian Juliet Walsh is calling on other creative types to enter the competition, which is open to all years.
It is also the 50th anniversary of one of Dahl's most popular books, James and the Giant Peach, so students' entries must be themed around fruit.
The deadline is October 3rd and the winners will be announced on National Poetry Day on October 6th.
Mrs Walsh, pictured with the some of Dahl's classics, said: "The judges will be looking for an original piece that demonstrates a good use of language. It can be fun, rhyming or a shaped poem - it's up to the poet."
Franklin House are also marking Roald Dahl Day with a 'Caught Reading' competition. Any students caught reading a Roald Dahl book or a book related to a theme from one of his books will be given a raffle ticket. The student who has the winning ticket will win a Roald Dahl related prize.
