Fair Trade Studies Culminate in Charity Sale

Da Vinci students who have been learning about the impact and benefits of fair trade put their learning into action with a sale of fair trade products.

One of the themes of their CAPS lessons has been how food producers in developing companies are affected by the choices made by consumers in the UK. Students have also been encouraged to think about the social and moral dilemmas surrounding money as well as learning business and economic terms.

After thinking about how they themselves can support the aims of fair trade, students produced a host of products to be sold in school at the end of last term.

They included a giant Kit Kat (pictured) and other treats made from fair trade goods in what proved to be a very successful event for the House charity, Kidsaid, with £317 raised.

Head of Da Vinci House Hazel Dodd said: "The efforts of both students and staff throughout the whole process have been absolutely amazing and therefore to have raised this huge amount as a team is to be highly commended. It was a lovely atmosphere in the main hall on both days and that was down to the organisation and preparation of the forms."
