Third Place for Sixth Formers in County Design Challenge

A group of sixth formers impressed the judges at Northamptonshire's Rotary Technology Tournament and were awarded third place in the advanced category.

KSA took two groups - year 8 girls and sixth formers - to the annual event at Weston Favell Academy last week.

They were challenged to design and build a coin sorter - year 8s were given two different sized coins and the sixth formers were given five. They were provided with the raw materials and had four hours to create a device that would sort the coins into their denominations, alongside a portfolio of their design process.

DT teacher Nicholas Guy accompanied the students. He said: "Everyone who went was engrossed in the challenge and the day went very quickly. The teachers were not allowed to help so it was entirely their own work.

"I was very proud of them and they worked very hard."

The event was organised by the Rotary Club of Nene Valley.
