Role Models Honoured at Principal’s Tea Party

Year 11 students described as “excellent roles models with a can-do attitude” were celebrated at a special tea party.

Each Head of House had to nominate five students based on their attitude, attendance and general approach to Academy life.

They and their families were then invited to join Principal Martin Campbell for tea and cake this afternoon.

Mr Campbell told them: "We wanted to hold this event for people who have done the right thing for a long time. It's for students whose attendance is good, punctuality is good and most of all, who have a can-do attitude.

"The young people in this room are excellent role models and that's what we want to create in our sixth form. For the new Year 7s starting in September, we want them to have people to look up to. These students are absolutely the right people for sixth form.

"I would like to say well done and what a fantastic effort."

Among the parents who attended was Sharon Sutton, who joined her son Fabien. She said: "Fabien moved here in Year 9 and it's so nice to see how well he's done; his confidence has soared. The science department in particular has really helped him - they recognised his talents in science and that's really changed his attitude. I couldn't be happier with the teaching staff."

Leia Pomfrett was joined by her father's partner, Dawn May (pictured), who said: "It makes you very proud of the effort they have put in and it brings a tear to your eye."
