Sixty students from years 7 and 8 sat the one-hour test which was set by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust.
Sam Blackman in Year 7 gained the highest mark in the Academy (98 out of a possible 135) and was awarded a gold certificate.

Also awarded gold was fellow Year 7 Tommy Winstone, while Adam Doughty, Lewis Pywell, Jacob Amos, Joe Smallman and Jordan Ayre achived silver. Emily Harwood, Thuva Illanchellien, Charlie Wootton, George Dilley and Paul Gudgeon (all Year 8) were awarded bronze certificates.

Stephen Ready, Assistant Head of Mathematics, said: "This is a fantastic achievement and these students are to be congratulated. They showed great enthusiasm and really rose to the challenge."

The competition is designed for those who have demonstrated an aptitude for maths. The test was made up of 25 questions which got progressively harder.
