GCSE Maths Success

Staff have commended Year 11 students for their hard work and attitude to revision after the year group achieved a strong set of GCSE maths results.

Head of Mathematics Lorraine Taylor said the group were reaping the rewards after putting in hours of study through extra revision sessions at school and at home.

She said: "Year 11 students have worked incredibly hard in preparation for their GCSE maths. Every student approached their revision in their own way, using their revision guides and workbooks, attending revision classes until 5pm on Tuesdays every week, attending a revision day during the half term holiday, attending extra maths revision sessions during form time, completing past papers and making sure they were asking questions.

"They achieved their results through hard work. Their attitude to learn and the maturity they showed in their focus and preparation for both the mock exam and the final exam is a great credit to them as a year group. They really deserve the excellent results they have achieved this year. Well done Year 11!"

David Wilson and Morgan Aspinall achieved A* grades and are both going on to study maths and further maths at A Level. Morgan said: "I'm very happy with my result - it has given me the confidence to know that I can do well in my A Level results and get into the university I want to go to."

Fellow Year 11 student Jodi Powell said: "I definitely wouldn't have achieved my B if it wasn't for the extra support from the dedicated staff, as well as all the extra revision I did after school. I am very pleased with my grade."

Other students also credited the support they received from staff as being crucial to their success.
Gemma Munns said: "I worked really hard to achieve my grade - I did this by creating a revision timetable and sticking to it. Also, the CAPS intervention sessions really helped. Mr Jenkins was a real support and helped me achieve my grade."

Rasa Ronkaityte, Sonam Seoye and Georgia Clarke said: "We are really happy to have achieved our target grades with the help of the maths department. They provided us with revision workbooks, after-school revision sessions and past papers to prepare for our exam. We also had the chance to come in for extra lessons during the holidays as well as every day CAPS lessons. We are really thankful because without the help we wouldn't have achieved the grades that we have now."
