Speed-Dating Book Challenge

The library held a speed-dating style workshop to help students find their perfect book match.

As part of the Booktrust’s Book Buzz initiative, all Year 7 students receive a free book to encourage them to read for pleasure.

Students had 12 different books to choose from and Librarian Heidi Economou decided to liven up the decision-making process by introducing a speed dating-style element.

Students spent two minutes considering each book and reading the synopsis before rating each one. They then discussed the books and their initial opinions of them before voting for first, second and third choices. They also wrote an outline of why they chose first place for a certain book.

The books were then wrapped and stored under the Christmas tree before being distributed, with most students receiving their first-choice book.
