Recruits For Bake Off

Student bakers are being sought to represent Kettering Science Academy in this year’s Brooke Weston Bake Off competition in the summer.

Student bakers are being sought to represent Kettering Science Academy in this year’s Brooke Weston Trust's inter-schools Bake Off competition in the summer.
Interested candidates are being asked to speak with Food and Catering Teacher, Mr Simon Isaac to collect a letter and a recipe book.
Practice sessions for the bakers are then starting from this Thursday, 22nd January after school in the Food Technology department at KSA from 3.30pm until 5pm.
Mr Isaac said: “At the moment we are skill building with the students.  They are going through skills and processes which may come up during the heats, as some of the students have not yet been to any food lessons (we have about 10 Year 7 students interested).  The best students will be able to produce complicated pastry, bread and cake dishes to a high standard.  Heats will be held starting after the Easter break and will comprise of several rounds testing students skills, hygiene and presentation of their dishes.  Heats are judged at school by Alan Sewell and a group of teaching and support staff.”
The top students will then go through to the final to be held at Corby Business Academy in July, like last year there will be 4 students chosen from each school to create a the team of bakers.
