Singing Sensations Win Evening Telegraph Arts Award

The Academy’s Junior Choir saw off competition from four secondary school choirs to scoop an award at the Evening Telegraph’s Proud of Our Education ceremony.

The Academy nominated the Junior Choir in the Arts Achievement category and the group was announced as winners at a celebration evening at the Holiday Inn in Corby on Wednesday, July 14th.

The choir had been invited to get the evening under way by performing two songs, conducted by Primary Phase Principal Anne O'Neill and accompanied by teacher Liz Blakeley on the piano.

Mrs O'Neill said: "The children were absolutely delighted. Paul Burnett, Head of Children and Young People at Northamptonshire County Council, commented afterwards that not only did the choir sound very musical but their diction was impeccable.

"They have worked really hard."

The annual awards ceremony celebrates achievements at schools across the county and the Junior Choir received a trophy as part of its award.
