NCS Project Success

A group of KSA Sixth Formers have successfully completed  a Social Action Project with the NCS which saw them raise awareness and funds for the Guide Dogs for the Blind .
Four students from Year 12 took part in an autumn action project run by the National Citizen Service (NCS) from October until November.
The NCS programme is open to all young people in Northamptonshire aged 15-17 and  provides them with a number of volunteering opportunities throughout the year.
The students from KSA worked with youngsters from other schools in Kettering on a fundraising project for the Guide Dogs and the whole team of students raised more than £800 for the charity to help fund the training of new guide dogs.
The students from Year 12 at KSA, Deborah Entiwaa, Ramandeep Hayer, Bree Streather and Patricia Mallare, all worked together for a total 30 hours on the project and raised more than £85 as a team through a raffle, a bucket collection in Thrapston and a sponsored woodland walk.
The students then graduated from the NCS project at the end of last month and were presented with their certificates at a presentation ceremony held at Northampton University.
Deborah said: “It was a great experience and it has helped to build on our team and leadership skills. It also provided us with a greater understanding and insight into the Guides Dogs for the Blind charity. We found out about the costs of training the dogs and providing them with the right harnesses and leashes.”
Bree  said: “It was a good way of meeting new people from Kettering and it was surprising how we all managed to keep in touch and co-ordinate the project with students from all the different schools.”
All four students said they were pleased they had taken part in the project and would highly recommend it to other students.
Deborah added: “There are various NCS projects run in school holidays including residential stays. They are well worth doing for the development of team building, organisational skills and for group project experience. The projects also provide students with something different to put on their CVs as well as counting towards their UCAS points for university .”
