Our Year 9 athlete for the javelin did KSA proud as he narrowly missed out on qualifying for the next round of the athletics at the regional championships.
Joe Freeman competed in the under 15s javelin event on Saturday 18th June at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham and he said the other contenders he faced on the day were of a very high standard.
However, despite the high level of competitors Joe managed a throw of 36.51 metres at the championships which placed  him in 9^th position. This result meant he just finished outside the top 8 athletes to qualify for the next round in Gateshead.
Joe said: “I am pleased to have got this far in the competition and I am proud to have come 9^th overall. I was up against some strong competitors on the day and there were also some cross winds to contend with, which didn’t help. I would like to try to qualify again for next year and hope to get more experience and training behind me in the meantime.”
Our other Year 9 athlete Annabelle Clotworthy was also going to compete on the day but was substituted by a fellow Kettering Harriers athlete after being asked to compete as part of the Heart of England Athletes competition.
Annabelle said: “I was disappointed I couldn’t run in both but I am pleased to have been selected to run at the Heart of England Championships in the under 17s 100m sprint and maybe in the 200m race as well.”
Annabelle has been put forward by her running club the Kettering Harriers to take part in the competition on 10th July.
