Yesterday KSA launched a CAMPS international expedition for current Year 10, 11 and 12 students to visit Kenya in 2018.

The Academy has decided to run the trip next year due to the success of the 2016 expedition to Peru. In Kenya students will have the opportunity to take part in projects to improve the standard of living for rural communities, visit the beach, go on safari for a chance to catch a glimpse of the ‘Big 5’ and take part in a three day forest trek on Mount Kasigau.

A representative from CAMPS international, the global leader in ethical and sustainable school expeditions, visited the students to talk about the life-enhancing school expedition on offer.

Two current Year 12 students that went on last years trip said ‘We visited four camps during our time in Peru and took part in a variety of projects from building an irrigation tank to supply the local people with fresh water to building them kitchens and toilets.

Charlotte said ‘It was an eye opening experience that has taught me not to take anything for granted from mobile phones to fresh water. I would like to become a vet and this trip has made me want to work abroad where the need is even greater.

‘The expedition pushed us out of our comfort zone to do things we would never have dreamed of doing before. I have never used a pickaxe before but found myself using one nearly everyday in Peru.’

Teresa said ‘People were really appreciative and what was only a little work for us meant so much to them and made a huge difference to their lives.

‘We have met friends for life from other schools on the trip that we still meet up with on a regular basis.’

We will be holding a Parents Presentation Evening on Tuesday 28th March at 6pm for anyone interesting in finding out more information about the trip. If you wish to attend the evening please fill out the slip on the form your child should have brought home with them.

Please note that the trip is not guaranteed to run until we have confirmation of the number of students that wish to attend.
