Year 7 student, Tyler has recently been awarded the Cancer Research Kids and Teens Star Award after beating Leukaemia. The award celebrates the courage of children in the UK who have been diagnosed with cancer.

Tyler was diagnosed with leukaemia when he was in Year 5 of primary school after experiencing a series of stomach pains. He then spent around 6 months in Nottingham hospital on and off undergoing treatment.

To celebrate getting out of Hospital Tyler attended Truck Fest with his dad but still has to go back for bone marrows and regular check-ups.

Tyler’s mother nominated the award because of the strength he has shown throughout his treatment. She said ‘Tyler really is my hero. He has taken it all in his stride and was the life and soul of the ward when he was in hospital. He is always caring about everyone else around him and is constantly helping others. He would reassure new patients when they were undergoing treatment for the first time. Even now he still buys presents for the children in the award.’

Tyler not only received a trophy as part of the award but was given a t-shirt, certificate and £50 TK Maxx vouchers. He said ‘I felt shocked when I received the award, I really wasn’t expecting it. I’m so proud of the award and what it represents. I am also looking forward to spending my vouchers.’
