Two Rugby Players To Represent East Northants

The talent of two promising rugby stars has been recognised after they were selected to represent East Northants in junior rugby.

Year 9 students Josh Clubley and Haydn McCann have been playing for Kettering Rugby Club since they were just six-years-old.

Recently, the pair took part in a 2-week trial for East Northants, a club which has close ties with the East Midlands team.

They impressed the coaches during training sessions and a game and were then selected for the under-14s team.

It means the boys will player at a higher standard which will help to develop their game.

Haydn, a flanker, said: "It was a privilege to be picked. There are only three other players in our age group at Kettering who play for East Northants."

The boys will now train and play several times a week for both clubs and they have their first match against Bedford at Luton in a week.

They said they are aiming to make the trials for the East Midlands team, which could take place later this year.

Josh, a number 8, said: "Rugby is a team game so it's fun and you have to be fit enough to stay on the pitch for 60 or 80 minutes. You can't go in thinking you're going to lose; you have to be mentally prepared too."
