Champion Hammer Thrower To Run Athletics Club

International athlete Matt Bell will offer his expertise to students at a new after-school club.

Matt, who is part of the premises team, was the British champion at hammer throwing for the under-17s, under-20s and under-23s.

He stills trains nine times a week and takes part in competitions across the country.

Now Matt is hoping to help others achieve as much as he has with a new athletics club where students can take part in throwing, running and jumping.

It will be held every Tuesday from 3.30pm to 4.30pm, meeting in the changing room.

Matt, who has competed in countries across Europe, said: "I think it will be interesting for students to try new events - it's quite rare for hammer-throwing to be taught in schools.

"I'm hoping to help them with the technical side of things as well as their strength and fitness.

"I'm more than happy to offer advice, even if the older ones just want to get into weight-training."
