Tributes to Fallen Soldiers

KSA paid tribute to those who have lost their lives in military combat and those still serving.

Franklin house held a special assembly led by the House and Vice Captain Jack Old and Jordan Grave, along with Josh Dawson. All three read contemporary poems written by currently serving soldiers.  During the two minutes’ silence, a wreath was hung over the balcony in EHB.

Below is one of the poems (by Anthony Devanny):

We Who Remain

We are indeed the lucky and unlucky ones,
As we are the ones who have lived to tell the tales of those we once knew.

We are the ones who carry those scars of things seen, done and lost
We are the ones who must never let those who are not here be forgotten by the new

We are the ones who will never need to be reminded that "We will Remember Them"
As We are the ones who will always remember those we forever call friend.

Head of Socrates, Fran Allan, said the Remembrance activities were once again very well supported by students. She said: “The students behaved fantastically and really took on board the reason why we do this every year. It was really impressive.”

Students also paid their respects on cards which will form a display. Here is a selection of some of their comments:

“I remember the brave soldiers who died for us to give us our freedom today.”

“Thank you for giving up your life so we can live ours.”

“Sleep well, you will never be forgotten.”

“Thank you for giving up your future lives.”
