Duo Crowned Winners of KSA Talent Show

Gemma Liggins and Kayleigh Tucker wowed the judges of the KSA Talent Show with their acapella version of ‘Your Song’.

Kayleigh has competed in the talent show in previous years and when Gemma said she was interested in taking part, they teamed up to deliver a show-stopping performance. They fought off competition from other singers, dancers and a group which performed a scene from Macbeth.

Gemma said: "We sing together outside of school and we eventually decided on 'Your Song' because it suits both our voices. We didn't think we would get through so the shock at the end of the night was amazing."

Kayleigh added: "It was very competitive - there were lots of good acts so we didn't think we had a chance of winning. It was heart-stopping singing in front of an audience but you just get over your nerves and get on with it."

Second place was awarded to Year 7 dancer Josh Helyer, while Elicia Chubb was awarded third place for her solo performance of Bruno Mars' 'When I was Your Man'.

Gemma and Kayleigh, who are both in Year 9, will now compete in the town-wide talent show, The K-Factor, in July.

Aaron Panther-Howell, who is Head of Expressive Arts, said: "The standard was very good. We had a number of acts which we haven't seen before because there were quite a few Year 7s taking part. It was nice to see a range of year groups working together, from Year 7 to sixth form.

"Gemma and Kayleigh really impressed the judges and they didn't need a backing track because of the strength of their voices."
