Skills Experience Day

Year 10 students were given food for thought about their future career choices at a Skills Experience Day in Northampton.

Year 10 students were given food for thought about their future career choices at a Skills Experience Day in Northampton.
The KSA students were taken to the skills fair event held at the Saints, Rugby Ground on Thursday, 3rd July and it opened their minds up to many of the future opportunities available to them.
There was a variety of interactive ‘Have a Go’ activities on offer for students to try out and gave them a feel for the courses they could look at enrolling on in the future.
There was information and advice being provided by exhibitors on science courses, floristry, engineering, stonemasonry and fashion through to careers in the NHS and the Army.
Exhibitors on the day included Northampton College, Moulton College, Tresham College, the NHS, Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership, Northampton Saints, Grant Thornton Accountants, Connexions and the Army.

Students were given the chance to try out everything from hairdressing and nail art through to bread making.
Year 10 student, Katrina Newlyn, said: “The event was amazing, I got to explore a lot of the opportunities on offer. It made me widen my mind and make me think about what I want for my future.”
She added: “I have even thought about doing a nail and hair course instead of childcare. It really helped me and I’m sure I can speak on behalf of a lot of year 10 students to say it was very interesting to find out all the things available to us.”
Year 10 student, Charlie Wooton said: “The trip gave us an insight into some interesting subjects and helped me to find out more information on courses that I may be interested in taking in the future.” He added: “Lots of people enjoyed trying out the various activities which were available there. Overall, I think that the trip was useful as it opened my eyes to other opportunities and careers.
