A wedding was held at the Primary Phase last Thursday, 27th November and it was a great celebration for all the pupils in Year 1 and their invited guests.
The marriage style event was held between two Year 1 pupils, Dermot Skipper and Leigha Baxter and the occassion was witnessed by fellow pupils and parents.
The Main Hall at the Primary Phase was transformed into the KSA church for the afternoon, complete with its own aisle and stained glass window.
The wedding party arrived at the KSA church in the school’s minibus that had been decorated with ribbon and a ‘Getting Hitched’ banner, especially for the event.
After the wedding vows and the signing of the register the guests enjoyed a reception/party and the bride and groom got to enjoy their first dance. All the guests entered into the the party atmosphere of the event.
Year 1 teacher, Mr James Bates said: "This term Year 1 have been busy learning about different celebrations that are celebrated throughout the year and on special days.
Our big entry point this term was to hold a wedding, we had already looked at weddings in other cultures and tried to find the similarities and differences between them."
Mr Bates added: "Our service mirrored a real life wedding as closely as we could so that the children were immersed in all the details of such a big event.  We made sure we came dressed in our best wedding attire, we visited the school church to have the service then we went to the meeting hall to have the reception.  Speeches were made and the bride and groom had their first dance - even though the bride wasn't sure if she had married the right groom."
