Performing Arts Faculty

The Academy’s Performing Arts department is entering into an exciting new phase as it expands on the arts opportunities being offered to students.
The drama department at the Secondary Phase has been undergoing changes and the provision has been developing from strength to strength over the last two years at KSA.
As a result the school is pleased to announce it is now able to provide a full performing arts faculty as part of the Academy’s curriculum provision for students.
Head of performing arts at KSA, Miss Julia Mallard said: “Performing arts has always been a popular option for our students at Kettering Science Academy. As separate subjects, dance, drama and music have also been popular with students at KS3 and we have been increasing the uptake at KS4 and KS5. With the newly formed faculty, this will provide our students with an integrated curriculum of performing arts subjects from Year 7 to 9 with the popular options being available for students to choose at KS4 and KS5.”
The new developments will allow for all KS3 students from this September to have one lesson of drama/dance a week and a one lesson of music a week.
Drama will be studied at the Secondary Phase for four terms a year with two terms of dance.
The curriculum will allow for students to access the key skills necessary for each subject area, a taste of performing arts history, performing arts across the world; as well as ensuring that students are suitably prepared in the approaching the variety of KS4 programmes of study.
Miss Mallard added: “At KS4 we are exploring the opportunities in offering a range of BTEC programmes in music, dance and acting. In addition to this there will be GCSEs available in each subject area, subject to the uptake at options choices in Year 9. The KS5 provision will also be increased to offer KS5 curriculum in dance, drama and music, subject to the uptake.
“This is an exceptionally exciting time here at KSA and as the head of performing arts, I am looking forward to the exciting and rewarding possibilities this will bring to our students.”
Other future developments to look out for include: clubs, variety shows, live performances, extra-curricular music tuition and trips."
