The Secondary Phase’s Carnegie shadowing group have been meeting twice a week to discuss this year’s book nominations for the children’s book awards.
The Academy’s book group of Year 8 & 9 students have been all reading through the books on this year’s shortlist for the prestigious book awards and getting together on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during CAPs time to discuss about the novels in depth.
The group of KSA girls have also started to write reviews on the books and are being encouraged to post their thoughts about the various titles on the reading group’s page on the Carnegie website.
Head librarian at KSA, Mrs Heidi Economou said: “The students are enjoying reading through the eight books that have been shortlisted for this year’s book awards. Each week we are looking at the subject matter of the stories in depth and we have held some interesting discussions and debates within the group. We are now also encouraging our students to submit online reviews about the books."
Mrs Economou added: “All the shadowing group students have said they are pleased to have been introduced to these books, especially as they might never have considered reading them before. It has also made them aware of different authors and their varying writing styles.”
All the books are available in the school’s library to read and the school welcomes any of our student’s views and feedback online after reading any of  the books.” (Link to the website page is below)
