Year 7 student, Lucas recently represented the District in the U13 County Cross Country Competition at Croyland Park, in Wellingborough.

Lucas qualified to represent the District after achieving first place at the U13 District Cross Country Championships at West Glebe Park, which took place back in November.

Despite a tough race at the County Championships, in which Lucas was up against over 100 other competitors and poor weather conditions, he managed to finish the race in 1st place. Placing in the top 14 means that he will now go through to the next round of the Anglian Trophy Inter-County Cross Country. This will take place on 3^rd February in Ipswich.

Lucas said ‘The race was harder than most. The weather condition weren’t great and there was a lot of hills throughout the course. It was a very close call between myself and second place but I could see him burning out and stayed calm.

‘I’ve been running since I was in Year 5 and won a Primary school District Cross country race having done no practicing. I noticed then that I was actually quite good at the sport. I am also very passionate about football but have realise my talent for running. My dream is to become a sportsman.

‘I am feeling quite prepared for this next race. I have researched the competition and hope to place in the top 5. If I come in the top 3 I will be very happy.’
