This year the Academy is excited to announce that it is taking a group of students on a Performing Arts trip to Greece, the origin of theatre.

The trip, which takes place later this month, will allow the students to explore the country over a four day period. During this time, the students from Year 8 to 10 will visit a variety of historical sites, such as the Acropolis and Dionysus, where the Dionysus Festival, celebrating comedy and tragedy, used to occur from 487BC.

The students will also have a full day to explore Athens and experience professional performing arts workshops from Greek practitioners who will teach them all about Greek tragedy, comedy and mask making.

Towards the end of the week, the students will devise their own piece inspired by workshops and may have an exciting opportunity to perform in an orginal amphitheatre.

Drama Teacher Miss Watkinson said ‘The trip will allow the students to explore the country where theatre and its culture originated. Taking part in a range of workshops will support students' studies and help them improve their confidence and other skills.’
