‘Igniting the Spark’

A group of our Year 10 and 11 students recently joined other local schools at Northampton College to take part in an exciting workshop organised by the National Space Academy.

The workshop called ‘Igniting the spark’ allowed students to gain a greater insight into the science of space through a variety of fun activites. Students learnt how to build a telescope, how to create a comet from dry ice, discovered what lifeforms need to survive in space and made rockets, which they tested to see how far they could travel using compressed air.

The session allowed students to explore the future careers STEM subjects could lead to. Student Bernard said ‘I found the workshop very engaging and we learnt some scientific history about space. I gained an insight into a subject I find interesting and am considering a career in.’
