Turf Cutting Ceremony Marks Start Of Building Work

Students were at the heart of a special ceremony held to officially mark work starting on KSA’s new £26m building.

The turf cutting ceremony was led by the Brooke Weston Partnership's Executive Principal Peter Simpson and he was joined by representatives from Northamptonshire County Council, Kettering Borough Council and Willmott Dixon Construction.

The official sod-cutting was done by George Weston, a sponsor of the Brooke Weston Partnership, who told the visitors: "This is a wonderful project and the building will be absolutely fantastic. From the sponsors to the Secretary of State to the Local Authority, everyone believes this will work.

"It is a great privilege to be here."

Councillor Andrew Grant, Northamptonshire County Council's cabinet member for children and young people, said the building will be an asset for Kettering.

He said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for the young people of Kettering and an investment for the town.

"It will be the teachers, principal and people behind the school that will deliver this and we hope this will be a building that young people can enjoy and achieve in, and have the best opportunities."

A group of students were invited to the ceremony, including Head Girl Colette Curley and Head Boy Alex Ewen, who presented Mr Weston with a model digger and thanked him for his support.

Architects who worked on the design of the new building were on hand to explain to students the lay-out of their new school and what they can expect.

Willmott Dixon Construction's Managing Director, Peter Owen said: "Engaging the students is core to our ongoing commitment to their development, both inside and outside the classroom. By enabling them to learn about the environmental impact of construction, we hope we will be able to enrich their knowledge as well as provide a creative new environment in which they can learn."
