A group of Year 9 and 10 students recently visited the University of Northampton to learn more about careers within the emergency services.

On arrival, the students witnessed the re-enactment of a car crash as part of a careers day with a twist. They were able to observe the roles of each of the emergency services as they first arrived at the scene of the incident.

The students interested in careers within the industry then took part in a range of workshops led by each of the services including paramedics, firefighters and the police. During the sessions they found out more about each of their roles, pathways into the industry and possible careers.

Teacher Mr Baines said: ‘The day was very informative for the students and enabled them to talk to each of the emergency services teams and ask them any specific questions they had about their jobs. The students now have a greater understanding of what each jobs entails as well as the qualifications they would need and the content of the specific courses. For some of the students it has exposed them to possible careers that exist whilst for others it has helped confirm that they want to go in the industry and they now have a clear idea of what they need to do to achieve this.’
