Archer Showing Great Promise

A student who took up archery just 12 months ago has already collected a handful of trophies and is aiming to make the county team.

Daniel Nixon, who is in Year 9, joined the Targetcraft Archers Club in Burton Latimer because he wanted to try something new.

Within months, he'd picked up six trophies and now he is hoping to be accepted onto the junior coaching course of the Northamptonshire County Archery Squad.

Daniel said: "To be considered for the county you have to get 500 points in five dozen rounds and I'm currently on 450, so I'm not far off.

"It's a fun thing to do and I feel I'm ready to move to the next level now. I'd like to see what it's like playing at county level."

Daniel trains twice a week at Montsaye Community College in Rothwell during winter and at Westlodge Farm in Rothwell during the summer.

He recently took part in the Westlodge Challenge which is a local competition between Targetcraft and Kettering Archers, picking up the Westlodge Challenge Handicap Cup as well as the Junior cup.
