Sixth Formers To Take On Mentoring Roles

Year 12 and 13 students will develop their roles as Academy ambassadors by taking on peer mentoring positions.

Within each House, a number of Sixth Formers will either support Year 7 and 8 students to improve their reading and spelling, or they will work with a Year 11 GCSE student to help them meet their target grades.

The Sixth Formers will spend an hour a week during Tutor Time supporting the younger pupils.

Assistant Vice Principal for Sixth Form, Jane Watson, said: "The aim is that Sixth Formers take on a leadership and management role and that younger students improve their reading scores or GCSE grade.

"The scheme will be reviewed once it gets under way at the end of January, with a view to it continuing in the future."

The peer mentoring programme embodies KSA's aim to create a 'family' environment which has already seen the creation of the House system and mixed-age forms.

It also fits in with the aim to provide Sixth Formers with a variety of skills and experiences to help them onto university, further education or employment.
