Student Receives A Learner Of The Year Award From Tresham College

Elliott Gillies received an award for his ‘outstanding’ attitude after completing the first year of a BTEC Level 2 in construction at Tresham College.

He was invited to Tresham's annual Learner of the Year awards presentation last Friday (May 20th), which was attended by MP Philip Hollobone and local employers.

Elliott, who is Year 10, spends a day each week at the Windmill Avenue campus and has been learning the skills of bricklaying, painting and decorating.

He was recognised in the Tresham Vocational College 14-19 category and his tutors had this to say about him:

"Elliott is a pupil at Kettering Science Academy and attends Tresham to study construction. He is a pleasure to teach as he always applies 100% effort in both his theory and practical assignments. His attention to detail is outstanding, he thrives on challenges and only settles for distinction grades. Elliott will do well in whatever career he chooses as he tackles all his challenges with great interest and determination."

Elliott is now looking forward to the second year of the course, saying: "I think I got the award because I get on with my work. I enjoy it because of the practical side to it. I think construction is something I might like to get into in the future."
