KSA To Host Carnegie Shadowing Event

The best of children’s literature will be analysed and judged at a Carnegie shadowing event being held at KSA later this month.

Pupils from Bishop Stopford School, Latimer Arts College, Montsaye Community College, Southfield School for Girls and Wellingborough School will join the KSA Bookworms group to decide amongst themselves which of this year's nominated books they think should be awarded the coveted Carnegie Medal.

The national accolade is awarded by children's librarians for an outstanding book for children and young people.

On the day the winner is announced (June 23rd), pupils will get together at KSA to discuss which book out of the following they think should win:

Prisoner of the Inquisition - Theresa Breslin
The Death Defying Pepper Roux - Geraldine McCaughrean
Monster of Men - Patrick Ness
The Bride's Farewell - Meg Rosoff
White Crow - Marcus Sedgwick
Out of Shadows - Jason Wallace

Librarian Juliet Walsh (pictured left with Assistant Librarian Kathryn Webb and the nominated books) said: "It's so good to hear pupils talking about books; the Bookworms group all like different types of books so it will be interesting to see who likes what.

"It's a good opportunity for them to meet like-minded pupils from other schools and they enjoy the chance to talk about what they've read.

"They can't just say whether they liked a certain book; they have to explain why and give their reasons."

The Bookworms have been adding their reviews of the books to KSA's webpage on the Carnegie Shadowing website - click here to view the page.
