Resounding Victories for Basketball Team in First Two League Games

The year 8 boys’ basketball team has got off to a flying start with two decisive wins this month.

The first league game, against The King John School, was a runaway victory for KSA, with the match ending 48-16.

Players demonstrated their talent and determination once again with a 54-26 win over Oundle and Kingscliffe School.

The team then won the district tournament on Tuesday, January 31st, with convincing wins over Brooke Weston, Bishop and KBA. In the final they managed to come from behind and beat Latimer 8-6. The player of the tournament was Adam Bridgman.

The team say they enjoy representing the Academy and that playing together has developed their team work skills.

Lauson Kenyon said: "It gives you a sense of pride and achievement to represent the school and it's good for you in terms of fitness."

Fellow team-mate Adam Bridgman said: "Team work is key - it's important that you work together instead of hogging the ball all the time."

Many of the boys also play for basketball clubs in Kettering and Corby and they say Bishop Stopford is the team to beat.

Tate Bridgman added: "Basketball is about collaboration, communication, awareness and reflexes."

A reminder to all year 8 boys that training is on Thursdays after school and everybody is welcome.

The next fixture is the district tournament at Latimer Arts College on Tuesday 31st January.
