KSA students are being invited to a poetry workshop later this month run by the Academy’s very own poet, Miss Stevie Townsend.
The poetry workshop is to take place on Thursday, 16th October in the Secondary Phase library during CAPS time and aims to encourage students with an interest in poetry to develop their creative writing skills.
Miss Townsend is an ICT teacher at Kettering Science Academy, but is also is a published poet. She is keen to help students to work on their poetry skills as well as provide advice on starting to develop ideas into poems.
Secondary Phase Librarian, Heidi Economou said: “We have decided to run the poetry workshop in recognition of National Poetry Day in October. This year’s theme for the day was ‘remember’ and we would like students to remember we have poetry resources in the library and we are also very lucky to have Miss Townsend’s poetry knowledge and expertise within the Academy.
“We hope the workshop will give our students the chance to gain more confidence in writing and composing their own poems from initial ideas and themes.”
Miss Townsend said: “I attend a poetry club each week and we share our poems. My confidence received a boost when I had three of my poems chosen to be published in a local book of poems called Bards at Blidworth and Beyond 2012. It has encouraged me to start writing more and I am in the process of writing a children’s book.
“I look forward to running the workshop later in the month to help develop the student’s confidence and to enhance their enjoyment of poetry writing.”
For more information on the poetry workshop and to book their place students are being asked to speak to library staff.
