More than 1,000 visitors attended Kettering Science Academy’s Open Evening for prospective Year 7 students last Tuesday evening, 14th October.
The Academy opened its doors for two hours and held a successful and busy showcase event for visiting Year 5 and Year 6 families.
KSA students were on hand to provide guided tours to the visitors and other students from all years were present in various departments to demonstrate the variety of work and teaching available as part of the Academy’s varied curriculum.
There was explosive action in science with methane bubbles, in biology there was animal dissections and air track and gliders in physics.
In the mathematics department there was some interactive fun with numbered dance mats along with other numeracy problems and puzzles for the visitors to solve.
Musical performances took place throughout  the event in the music department with students playing the drums, guitars and piano.
In textiles students were creating souvenirs for the guests to take home with students sewing visitors' names on bookmarks.
Examples of students’ work were on display in all departments, allowing for the visitors to see the standard of work being produced at the Secondary Phase.
Principal of KSA, Mr Paul Davies addressed the visitors in two welcome speeches in the main theatre and he spoke of the academy’s aspirations for the future including working towards an Outstanding Ofsted report.
Mr Davies then invited parents and visiting pupils to look around the school and to speak to all staff and students about their experiences at the Academy.
Visiting Year 6 pupil, Katie Morgan said: “I really enjoyed the evening and I like the academy very much. The teachers and pupils were really helpful. I would like to consider coming to KSA next September.”
Another visiting Year 6 pupil, Daniel Warren said: “The school looked brilliant. The teachers and pupils were very friendly and helpful. I liked the design and technology area the best.”
