A group of 10 students from Year 12 and 13 took part in this term’s Senior Mathematics Challenge which gave them the chance to demonstrate their logic and problem solving skills.
The students took individual mathematics challenge test papers and answered questions on different varieties of mathematical problems.
Year 13 student, David Wilson did extremely well with his individual paper and was awarded a gold certificate, which puts him in the top 10 per cent of all of the participants.
David said:” I am really pleased to be awarded the gold certificate after being awarded silver for the past two years. The paper was a multiple choice paper with a number of questions to think about and apply various formuals and logic to. I found the first 15 questions to be easier than the last 10.”
David is keen to do well in his A-level maths examations and hopes to study further maths at university.
Year 12 students, Daniel Warren and Jack Old also did well with the maths challenge and were awarded bronze certificates.
The Senior Team Maths Challenge is run by the UKMT and the further Maths Support Programme nationally and challenges the students to think about different approaches to mathematical problems.
