Basketball Players’ Slam Dunk

Young basketball players from KSA were selected to represent the area in a regional competition.

The group, which are part of the Academy's Hotshots Basketball Club, joined pupils from other schools to represent the Kettering area at the All Stars tournament on Saturday, July 10th, facing teams from Leicestershire.

Shannon Garrett played for the Year 3 and 4 girls' team while Teresa Perez, Ramandeep Hayer and Tanya Kuveya were selected to play for the Year 5 and 6 girls' team.

Dylan Mutebi represented the Year 3 and 4 boys' team and Reagan Joyce played for the Year 5 and 6 boys' team.

Dan Waller, who coaches the Hotshots Club, said: "To have six players from one school selected is quite a high number; usually it's one or two.

"They played some of the best players in their age group and because they were not always with pupils from their club, they got the chance to mix with others and make friends outside of school.

"Our emphasis is to always have fun and to always have a smile on your face."

As well as basketball skills, the players had to demonstrate good behaviour during training to be in with a chance of being selected for the tournament.

The Hotshots Club meets every Wednesday morning before school from 8am to 8.45am.
