A group of our students performed well at last night’s county chemistry competition held at the University of Northampton.
Four students from the Secondary Phase took part in the Top of the Bench science contest at the university on Wednesday night, 9th December and competed against nine other schools from Northamptonshire in the county heat.
At the event the students from Years 9-11 had a tour of the university’s tannery and they received a talk on the chemistry of leather.
The nine school teams were then sent away to complete a quiz paper based on the visit and what they had learnt.
Science Teacher, Miss Sophie George who attended the event with the students, said: “I am so proud of the students that attended and participated in the chemistry competition. They worked together really well as a team, very enthusiastic and were great representatives for the Academy.”
Miss George added: “We are now just waiting to hear if they have made it through to the regional round of the competition that will take place at Derby University.”
One of the students that took part in the science event was Year 9 Student, Bernard Dec, he said: “It was a very interesting and fascinating experience. The quiz questions were varied and did make us really think, in fact some of the questions were quite difficult, but we worked well as a team. We can only now hope we did enough to get through to the next round.”

The students who attended the after school event were: Year 9 Students, Bernard Dec and Owen Wilson, Year 10 Student, Ishan Tailor and Year 11 student, Ericka Bote.
