Bake Off Practise

A group of 16 students from Years 7-10 have started baking and preparing for this year’s Great Brooke Weston Trust Bake Off.

A group of 16 students from Years 7-10 have started baking and preparing for this year’s Great Brooke Weston Trust Bake Off.
Last Thursday after school all the young bakers started working on baking their own bread and creating sandwiches with a difference.
Students had come prepared with their own ingredients for making bread for the sandwiches or had brought in bread and were adding their different fillings.
The students, over the next few weeks, will be working through a recipe book of bread, pastries and cakes in readiness for competing in the final of the Trust's Bake Off competition in July.
All the students will be looking to catch the judges’ attention with their various takes on the recipes to make them their own and for them to stand out from the rest.
Restaurant manager at KSA and one of the organisers of the Bake Off, Mr Alan Sewell said: “There has been a really good response again from students for this years’ contest and it also good to see a couple of last years’ winning Bake Off team members making a return. Over the next few weeks the 16 students will be judged on their creations and will be competing against each other for one of the three places on our final KSA Bake Off team.”
Last week’s session was a trial run for the students, but from this Thursday their creations in the kitchen will be judged and marked on various elements, including their taste and overall presentation. The highest overall points scorers will win a place in the final competition team for the Academy.
The final in the summer term is against teams from other Brooke Weston Trust schools and their task will be to create an afternoon tea for six people within 5 hours.
Students will need to produce a selection of sandwiches or rolls, sweet scones, sweet pastry, savoury pastry, tray bake, cupcakes and a sponge cake.
Last year KSA won the Bake Off cup and this year's team will be looking to retain the title.
