Spreading Christmas Joy to World’s Poorest Children

Compassionate pupils have filled 155 shoeboxes with Christmas gifts for children in developing countries.

The Academy launched an appeal to support Operation Christmas Child, which is the world's largest children's Christmas project.

There was an impressive response and pupils have been collecting toys and gifts ready to be shipped to children in Africa, Eastern Europe or Central Asia.

Citizenship Coordinator James Leigh, who has helped to organise the appeal, said: "I think its been important for pupils because it has made them think about what their life is like in comparison to the lives of those in other countries - its also provided an opportunity for pupils to work together in teams and to really show what a community working together can achieve."

Last year, Operation Christmas Child saw 1.2m shoeboxes sent to children across the world who might otherwise have gone without a present during the festive season.
