Singer Wins Place With County Choir

A talented musician can add another string to his bow after successfully auditioning for the Northamptonshire Youth Choir.

Year 7 student Lauson Kenyon is one of the youngest members of the choir but he is looking forward to an exciting programme of events in the coming months.

His first performance was at a Christmas concert at the Derngate Theatre in Northampton in November, which included songs from the Phantom of the Opera.

Last year Lauson was a member of the Northamptonshire Boys Choir but as his voice started to deepen, choir masters suggested he try out for the youth choir.

Not only does he sing, Lauson also plays to clarinet at grade 3 level, the bassoon at grade 2 and the drums.

He said: "I just love to perform and music is a real passion of mine. My mum is always playing music and she loves jazz so I think that's where I get it from.

"She tells me that music will open up opportunities for me and give me more choice in later life."

He added: "I love all types of music, especially rock and some slow ballads. I like contemporary music but sometimes it's the older songs that are the most powerful and make people say 'wow.'"
