New After-School Construction Club

Do you want to find out what goes on behind-the-scenes on a large-scale project like KSA’s new build?

If so, the new Construction Club could be for you.

Students will get an insight into what's involved in pulling a development like this together, from architects, designers and engineers to IT specialists and people from different trades.

There are 20 places available and the club will meet on Thursdays from 3.30pm to 5pm, starting on January 13th.

Wilmott Dixon, the construction company working on the Academy's new building, has organised the new club and will be using its extensive list of contacts to bring in visitors to speak to students.

Matt Isherwood, the project manager for the Brooke Weston Partnership, said: "We want to show students just who is involved in a project like this, from the architects who come up with the creative designs and the mathematicians who make sure the building stands up, to the artists who design the soft furnishings and technicians who put in the IT infrastructure and phone lines."

Planned activities include a scaffolding exercise, the building of a brick arch and an electrics demonstration.

Any students who are interested in joining the Construction Club should speak to Mrs Harvey.
