Food Forum Set Up To Give Restaurant Feedback

A special committee has been set up to allow students to have more of a say in what’s served up in the restaurant.

The Food Forum held its first meeting today (Tuesday, May 17th) and the group of students were joined by Rosemary Purdie, managing director of Essence Catering, Claire Bennett who is the catering manager and Kevin Dainty, head chef.

The group will meet six times a year and will be involved with things like taste testing new dishes, coming up with competitions and giving suggestions for new additions to the menu.

Mrs Purdie said: "The idea is that as we do new things, we ask the students on the Food Forum to trial them. Hopefully they will then pass their comments onto their friends so they try them too.

"They'll also be involved in surveys - we have a survey out at the moment to find out who uses the restaurant and why some people don't."

The Food Forum will soon be asked to get involved in a sandwich competition, giving students the chance to come up with their own ideas and the winning entry going on sale in the restaurant.

Student Martha Reynolds is part of the Forum. She said: "I thought it would be a good opportunity for me to represent my House. I also wanted to help the school and the restaurant."
