Robot Wars

Kettering Science Academy Team Rule Victorious In An Inter Schools Robot Wars.

Academy students lifted the crown in a real life robot wars battle.

The school hall became a mechanical battlefield as teams of KSA students took on peers from sister schools Corby Business Academy and Brooke Weston Academy.

Teamwork, creativity and design flair were part of the one-day competition staged at Kettering Science Academy on February 2nd.

Students spent the morning session designing and building their robots and in the afternoon took each other on in a football themed competition, before battling it out to destroy each other's creations and see their design crowned the best robot.

It was the first event staged involving all three secondary schools in the Brooke Weston Partnership and so the KSA students were delighted to lift the trophy.

Ranveer Sahota, Tesina John, Hannah Panther and Alex Seymour were the winning team behind Rampant Robots - the creation that battled its way to overall winner.

Hannah said: "It was a really good experience and I learnt a lot. Teamwork skills are vital and we had to learn to trust each other. It feels incredible to have won and all the hard work has paid off."

Besides winning the overall contest the Rampant Robots team also came first in the teamwork skills category and the combat section.

Another KSA team Robot Warganism won the design and prototype section while a CBA team won the team name logo and football categories and a Brooke Weston team claimed first place in the presentation skills round.

John Findlay from Nottingham Based Roamin Robots, the company that ran the project, said he was pleased with the efforts put in all students who attended.

He said: "I was impressed that every team managed to design and build their robot in the timeframe and that every one was unique.

"I was particularly impressed with the winning team as it was clear from the outset that they were working well as a team."

Head of Design and Technology at KSA Stuart Milton - who organized the day with Jenny Brackwell - said: "It has been a great day and we will be staging it again next year."

The winners were presented with a vouchers and trophy - which will be fought over next year - while all category winners also received a prize.
