Footballers Help Their Team To Win The League

Five Year 7 boys who play for Weekley Rovers Barbarians Under 12s helped their team to win the Weetabix League.

George Peasnall, Jacob Amos, Liam Buckland, Troy Brown and Ethan Marlow (missing from photograph) played around nine other teams from Kettering, Rothwell and Wellingborough.

Their final match was a runaway win against Borough Lions, which ended 6-0 to the Barbarians and helped them to win the first division league by one point.

The team, which is managed by George's dad Gary Peasnall, was invited to a presentation evening at the Lighthouse Theatre last month.

George, a striker who has been playing for a football team for eight years, said: "It felt great to win because we were one point ahead of a really good team from Great Doddington.

"I have always played football and have always wanted to win a league. We only conceded 18 goals in all our matches."

The team was formed when a couple of teams amalgamated two years ago and last year, they won the league cup.
